  Prelude from Wolfe’s Sight

Not for the first time this morning did Sammy wonder what the hell he was getting himself into. His first look at the plane was confirmation that he had indeed went off the deep end. When he got off the phone with Alpha Tyler, he wondered if he had done the right thing. All he had was the voice, which was clearly his own, yet not at the same time in his dreams. In no way was he prepared to handle the things he saw in his dreams.

It all started a little over two months ago when he started having dreams that he couldn't explain. Each one was unique and so real—he didn't even know what to think at first. The next night he had another one, and the following nights more of the same, deciding this was now going to be a regular dream state for him.

Sammy decided to record the dreams into a journal, and had done so every night since. It wasn't until he started dreaming about people who he knew when he began to get worried. Honestly, Sammy didn't know if his last dreams were to be believed. His dreams showed him as a totally different person. Sure he wanted to be the person who he dreamed of, but he was realistic. Hell, he knew enough heroes; he lived around them every day.

From a young age, Sammy knew he was different than most of the pack. He was not a full wolf as his father was, and his mother was a human, he had been told. When it came to his parents, he only knew the basics. All he knew for sure was he couldn’t phase into a wolf, and that’s what hurt the most about these dreams. His wolf was swift and nothing had ever felt better than when his black wolf ran free.

The last few hours were antagonizing for Sammy. He felt every shimmy and bump of the plane. He probably had put permanent handprints into the armrests. He couldn’t remember a time when even the sight of an airplane didn’t make him breakout in a cold sweat. When they called for the approach to the Washington airport after what seemed like a lifetime, he breathed almost normally for the first time since boarding. Sammy still hadn’t convinced himself he wasn’t completely crazy for having done this.

On shaky legs he exited the plane. He was just coming down the off-ramp from the plane when he smelled the most amazing scent. It was like fresh rain on a field of summer grass. It took a moment for him to make the connection. He was picking up the scent of his mate. As he looked around the room filled with people, it took him a moment to pinpoint the direction his mate was in.

When he finally found the man with the delicious scent he couldn’t believe how handsome the man was before him. Never in his dreams had he considered being given such an amazing gift. He didn’t think he was worthy of having a mate—he wasn’t a full-blooded shifter. Sammy had just assumed he wouldn’t have a mate—like all the full-blooded shifters who lived around him. They were the strong ones, the heroes that saved people on a regular basis. Being alone was something he had resigned himself to long ago.

Over the next hour, Sammy got to know the handsome man before him. What shocked him the most was that Isaiah was no normal mortal—he was a white wizard. He listened to his mate and was entranced by his voice, but it was everything else about him as well. He could sit for hours and just listen to his impressive voice.

After an hour of nature calling, he couldn’t dismiss the urge a moment longer unfortunately, Sammy thought. The last thing he wanted was to leave his mate. Something was pu
lling him to make this man his, and to hell with everyone else in the airport.

Sammy excused himself to use the restroom, letting his mate know he would be right back to continue their conversation with a promising smile. After doing his business, he started to wash his hands in the sink. It was quiet and he was the only one in the bathroom at the time. Sammy felt a disturbance in the air behind him. When he looked up in the mirror, he was surprised to see a man standing right behind him. Sammy felt him lay a hand on his neck, and then everything went dark…

  Chapter One

Lucas thought back to the moment his life changed for all time. Had it been a few hours ago—it seemed liked minutes in his mind. His life was full with the pack and the restaurant, but lately the loneliness had taken its toll. He couldn’t be happier for his friends. Ever since they had found their mates they had never been happier. Lucas just couldn’t help but wonder about his own. He knew like most of the others in his pack that his mate would be a male. It wasn’t widely accepted within the other shifter packs, and yet another reason he was thankful for Haven welcoming him into his own pack all those years ago. He was proud of being a part of the Haven’s Wolves pack and the principles they stood for.

Lucas’s thoughts had once again drifted to that special moment.

He had just walked into the house when he smelled honey and vanilla all wrapped up in one. He quickly walked down the hallway to the entrance of the living room.

He heard the voice of someone new in the midst. It was so sexy that his cock hardened immediately. Then he heard what the man said.

“I see…will my true mate be in danger of this happening?” Isaiah asked.

He couldn’t keep quiet a moment longer.

“Well, why don’t you let me answer that question since I am standing right here?” Lucas told the man before him. He couldn’t believe he had finally found his mate. The happiness that filled him was overflowing. Well at least until he saw the looks of all the people in the room.

Everyone looked at Lucas like he was insane.

“Lucas, this man is your mate?” the Alpha asked, knowing he would have to tell Lucas what happened to Sammy in a moment. Losing his mate before he even found him wasn’t going to be easy.

“Without a doubt, Alpha Haven, this man is my mate. Why would you ask?” Now he was getting worried.

“Lucas, this has gotten very complicated, and I’m sorry to have to tell you this, my friend. This man is Sammy’s mate as well. They met earlier at the airport—right before Sammy was kidnapped,” Haven said.

Hell—had he just heard his Alpha right? He had just found his mate, only then to find out he had a second one as well. Who had been kidnapped? Suddenly his life had been turned upside down. Now all he could think was where was his second mate and was he safe?

He looked across the room at the handsome man who was his mate.

  ****

How had his life changed so drastically in one day? was all Isaiah could think. Just yesterday he was living a boring life creating websites for people he never met. It was a solitary life, outside of the Cascade Coven. His whole coven only met in secret as a whole group, and only in times of great need. It was the only way to keep the dark magic users from killing every one of his coven members. All he wanted was to keep his friends safe—they were powerful together, but that power would paint a target on their backs. The dark witches outnumber them hundred-fold. Over the last century the dark magic users had killed thousands of his kind, taking on their powers and making them almost invincible. He would not allow that to happen to his coven.

The sound of Lucas’s voice pulled him away from his thoughts. Isaiah realized he was addressing him.

“We need to know everything about this man who took our mate, Isaiah. His life may depend on it, even the most minor detail you can remember may help us find him,” Lucas told his new mate. It was not the first words he would’ve liked to have said to his mate. Damn, it this was so frustrating. He didn’t like this feeling of helplessness—it went against every protective tendency inside of him. Like most of the wolves in the Haven’s Wolves pack, he was an Alpha who didn’t want to run his own pack. It was the perfect place for them, and they never had to worry about any challenges from their Alpha. Alpha Haven accepted each and every one of them just as they were.

After a moment of listening to his second mate’s sexy voice, Isaiah went on to say, “He wasn’t human—I could tell that about him right away. I’ve never felt energy like his before. It was so frustrating because he didn’t even leave a magical trace that I could follow. He looked human in appearance, with long black hair and green eyes. He was at least six foot five and built like a linebacker. The evil was clearly apparent and it looked like a cloak around his aura.” Isaiah could still feel the evil the person or thing had displayed within the small bathroom before taking his mate. It had clung to the being so strongly it had left behind a scent of scorching heat in the wake. Strangely that was the only thing that had been left behind—there was no trace magic for Isaiah to follow.

Haven stepped forward. “Do you think it could be another dark witch?” he asked the man who would soon be another pack member. It wouldn’t surprise him in the least after everything they had found out about the witch who had turned one of their “kind” against his people. The bastard had turned into a monster with demon blood and killed innocent people because of it. It was a time of horror for the Cedar Hill Pack. One he hoped they would never face again.

“No—I would’ve felt the dark power. They also produce a disgusting smell to white magic users. So, I’m positive it wasn’t one of those bastards,” Isaiah told the Alpha shifter before him. He was still confused by the currents he was reading off the strong leader before him. Isaiah had never come across anything like the Alpha and his mate. Their combined energy was off the chart, and intrigued his curiosity. They smelled of something other than wolf, but he didn’t have any idea what that might be.

Isaiah took in the energy of all the people in the room, and realized this group of people was different, but he felt no evil within their spirits. With that realization, he went on to say, “Do you have any ideas on who could’ve kidnapped my—I mean—our mate.” He looked over at the gorgeous man who was his second soul mate. This wasn’t anything like he had imagined when it came to meeting his soul mate. The fact he had been gifted with two was shocking to say the least, but the greatest gift from the Spirits, he thought right before the Alpha’s voice broke into his thoughts.

“It has to be the Demonian’s or Demons as we call them. Damn it, there has to be a reason why he was kidnapped.” Haven looked over at Shannon and Tyler for any information on Sammy. They would have any information they might need since he was a part of their Cedar Hill Pack. They would be the only ones who might have a clue why someone would’ve taken the missing man. Haven knew they were both very close to the man, along with Timmy, their adopted son.

Shannon knew Alpha Haven was looking for answers, and unfortunately he knew very little about Sammy’s life before he came to live at the Cedar Hill Pack. Damn it, why hadn’t he taken the time to get to know a little more about the man who ran their household with very little help. They had spent so much time putting the pack back on solid ground in the last few months.

The only thing he did know was one of Sammy’s parents had been human, and he wasn’t able to shift. To the rest of the new pack leadership this didn’t matter at all to any of them. Unfortunately, this hadn’t been the case when the previous Alpha was in charge. Shannon knew personally how bad Sammy had been treated, along with the majority of the pack in some way or form. The previous leaders had put the whole pack through hell, and they were just now starting to heal. This was mostly due to his wonderful mate and the kindness of the Haven’s Wolf Pack.

Shannon looked over at his mate, and the love of his life. He honestly knew without the man in front of him—he would’ve died a lonely and unhappy man. Now he had a mate and a wonderful son to
love. All he wanted was for his pack mate to be able to feel the same love. He would do everything within his power to protect them both. With those thoughts prominent in his mind, Shannon turned to the Alpha Haven to answer his question.

“The only thing I can think of that is different about Sammy is his mixed heritage. He is only half shifter, and he is unable to shift. I’m not sure if this is why they would’ve taken him, but it’s the only thing I can think at this point,” Shannon told everyone in the room, wishing he had more to add to help his pack mate and friend.

Lucas couldn’t wait another moment to voice his opinion. He hadn’t met Sammy yet, but he knew his thoughts on the subject would never change. “Well it doesn’t matter to me if he can’t shift. All I want is to get him back safely, and I’m sure Isaiah feels the same way,” Lucas told everyone. Every protective instinct was on high alert as he imagined what could be happening to his mate. The fact he couldn’t shift and protect himself was weighing heavy on his mind. Sammy had no way to protect himself other than in human form, and the fact he wasn’t there to help his mate when he was in need—pissed him off and he could feel his wolf struggling to break free in pursuit. Lucas assured his wolf that he would tear the son of a bitch a part when he found him for daring to touch what was his. Well, theirs it seemed.
