Prologue
It didn’t take Tyler long to find his beautiful mate. Tyler smoothed back his long, dark-red hair and kissed his cheeks. He drew him up into his arms, rocking him back and forth. Why would something like this happen after just finding each other?
“Why, spirits? Why would you take him away from me?” cried Tyler to the heavens.
There was no answer to his anguished plea, as Tyler held Shannon tightly to him and the tears ran down his face. Tyler cradled Shannon to his chest, looking down into his face. The fal of Tyler’s tears touched on Shannon’s cheek, and the air around them began to shimmer. Tyler held onto Shannon not knowing what to do. Tyler was scared of losing even this moment, holding his mate close to his side.
The shimmering around them stopped in a cloud of smoke, and Tyler looked mystified by the display. He looked down at his mate, gasping in surprise when his mate looked up at him and smiled. In that moment Tyler almost dropped his mate.
“Oh my god, you’re okay, baby. What the hel just happened, you were dead. I know you were dead!” Tyler yeled.
“I don’t know but I’m very much alive, Tyler.” Shannon said softly.
Tyler hugged Shannon close to his chest. He looked at the heavens and thanked the spirits for giving them another chance to be together.
“I promise you wil be protected, my precious mate.”
“We wil protect each other, that I promise you, my beloved mate,” said Shannon.
The reinforcements arrived just as the fight was winding down. They stood at the edge of the forest, watching in amazement as the dragons fought in unison with the creature out of a child’s worst nightmares. They helped round up the rebel wolves of the pack and those that were kiled as the Cedarhil Pack cheered from the background.
There was a victory cheer as the Alpha fel and the dragons tore him limb from limb. The people cheered on the dragons as they took to the air with their massive wings. They roared in victory as they flew back towards the Blackwood Pack House. What a remarkable sight and one they would tel for many years to come.
Tyler came up carrying a very much alive Shannon in his arms, when out of the crowd ran a little boy who threw his arms around his legs.
“Shannon, you’re al right, thank you, thank you, spirits,” he chanted.
“I’m fine, Timmy. I promise.”
“Where are your parents, little one?” Tyler asked.
“They were both kiled by a crazy man a few years ago,” said the little boy.
“Wel you have a home with us,” said Tyler, already able to read Shannon’s thoughts plainly on his face.
The little boy, unsure of Tyler’s response, looked at Shannon and asked, “Realy Shannon, I can come and live with you? The people that were taking care of me didn’t like me much. Wil you like me, Shannon?”
“I wil love you, Timmy, I promise. You wil always be loved.”
The people of the Cedarhil Pack watched the exchange between the grown men and the little boy. Something changed within them in that moment. They seemed to know their lives were changing for the better. They just didn’t know what to do next after so many years of abuse. This pack was going to need a firm but kind Alpha pair to guide them into the future.
Blackwood looked over at the pair cuddling the little boy close and an idea hit him. This would be the perfect Alpha pair to help repair al the hurt that had occurred over the years. It would take a lot of patience and loving care for these people before they would start opening up to others.
“Tyler, I have a proposition, and I would like to run it by you and your mate. As the highest-ranking wolf from this region, it’s up to me to see the Cedarhil Pack gets the help it desperately needs to heal. I think you and your mate are exactly what this place needs for an Alpha Pair. Shannon is already familiar with the place and the people; you would make a fine Alpha for this pack.” Tyler looked over at his newly found mate for his opinion on what the Blackwood Alpha was asking. Quickly, Shannon spoke into Tyler’s mind, “You are just what this place needs, Tyler, and I will help you any way I can.”
“I will help you too, my new daddies,” little Timmy said to them in their minds,
to their surprise.
“We would love your help,” Tyler told his new son. “I have a feeling that you are going to be a hand ful, young man.” Tyler looked out at al the wolves that were going to make up his pack. It had been a long day and he wouldn’t change a thing about it.
He had found his mate, and gained a son. Then he was given the opportunity to lead his own pack. Tyler gathered his thoughts as he walked forward to speak for the first time as the Alpha of the Cedarhil Pack.
Chapter 1
“Attention everyone, I’m the new Alpha of the Cedarhil Pack, please cal me Tyler. We are al a family now. I’m going to take my mate home, but I would like you to come to the Alpha House tomorrow evening for a meeting to voice any complaints or issues that need addressed immediately. I’l be relying on my mate as I get to know each one of you. Thank you and I look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow night.”
“We wil take the boy so you can have a night of peace,” said an older couple. Tyler nodded in acceptance, after looking for confirmation from Shannon that these were trustworthy people with their new son.
“Thank you, elders, you can send him to the Alpha House in the morning.”
“Night, new dads, I will see you tomorrow.” The little rascal said in their minds.
“See you in the morning, scamp,” Shannon laughed and then turned to Tyler.
“That was great my handsome mate, but it wil take some time before many say anything, I’m afraid. It has been realy bad around here for many years, Tyler.”
“I want a detailed explanation later, but right now I just want to get my mate to a safe place where you can rest. Where is your home normaly, Shannon?”
Shannon knew his face had turned red in embarrassment. He didn’t want to show his mate the hovel that he caled a home.
“Baby, it doesn’t matter if you lived in a hole in the ground, those days are behind you starting now, Shannon.” Tyler could tel by the look on Shannon’s face he was embarrassed and didn’t want to answer him. “I wil make sure that you have everything you could ever need right here in my arms. Let’s head to our new home and see what we need to clean out from the trash left behind.” Finaly, Tyler let Shannon walk as they made their way to the Alpha House, taking in al that would now be their home. As they approached the front doors, Shannon seemed to stiffen up with each step. Tyler realized this wasn’t a happy place for his mate. He reached over and took Shannon’s hand, trying to send him reassurance. This was something that they would face together.
Shannon looked up into his eyes with a “thank you” voiced within Tyler’s head as they made their way through the front doors.
“Now I can see where a lot of the pack money went. I think one of the first things we need to do is return anything that belonged to anyone in the pack. Everything else we wil sel and divide evenly between the pack members. Then you can make this into ‘our home’, my mate. Haven was a very wise adjuster of our pack funds and he has tripled our finances. Those funds were my personal funds, so we wil never want for anything, I promise you that, baby.”
Shannon was having difficulty choking back the tears as he took his mate’s hand in his own. How did he voice the years of neglect and abuse to himself and this pack without sounding as if he was whining about the hardships they went through? He looked up into Tyler’s caring eyes, and at once Shannon knew that Tyler would never judge them harshly. He just wasn’t that type of man or leader as he thought,
“How did I ever get lucky enough to find such a man?”
“I’m the lucky one, Shannon, and you’ve nothing to be ashamed of and neither does any member of our pack. We wil do right by them and get this pack back on solid ground. It just isn’t going to happen overnight unfortunately, my mate.”
“I keep forgetting that we can read each other’s minds so easily.”
“Shannon, we wil get through this together. Our lives weren’t easy, but it gave us a better understanding and compassion for those around us. It wil take al of us to make this pack whole once more, day by day we wil gain their trust. With you by my side, that is al the blessing I could ever hope for.”
“The first step is always the hardest when you’re facing the unknown,” Tyler thought. Getting through this week would be the first of their many chalenges in the weeks to come. They made their way into their room as the weight of the last day finaly released. They had decided to use a spare room until they could redo the master suite in their own tastes.
Tonight would be the start of the rest of their lives and it couldn’t start soon enough for either of them.
Chapter 2
The dragons were a surprise that no one had expected and probably the only thing that could’ve kiled the demon wolf. Jacob had been unstoppable in his blood rage, as it took over any part left of the prior wolf within him. Jarrod watched him carelessly kil the one man he wanted above al else. In that moment, he vowed to kil Jacob no matter the cost. Only to find out later than Shannon wasn’t dead after al and now he was with his so-caled mate. Jarrod would get back his man no matter what it took.
His plans had worked perfectly as he watched the carnage going on around him. Jacob had finaly gone off the deep end when the dark witch had combined the powers of the wolf and demon within him. He became a bloodthirsty maniac in the process. The only thing that Jarrod hadn’t expected was the help from the neighboring pack. To save himself from the slaughter, Jarrod retreated and watched everything from a safe distance.
Jarrod’s parents had confided in him the importance of finding these special wolves. During his parent’s time as Alphas, a Seer had insisted that these wolves would bring about prosperity to their pack if they joined. The Seer had been able to tel his parents where two of these wolves were living, and then his parents had set out to convince them to join their pack. Both of the parents of the pups refused to move their smal families from their home packs. His father had the parents kiled in what looked like ‘accidents’ and took in the children, saying they were kin, and no one had been the wiser.
The Alpha never told Jarrod what was so special about these two wolves, only that they would bring about the prosperity that he craved, or so the Seer had envisioned. In al the years that he watched them, they hadn’t brought any money to the pack. Jarrod believed the Seer had been wrong about these two men.
When Jarrod’s father died several years later in a fight with Jacob, the vision was pushed aside. Just a few short days ago, Jarrod found out why Jacob kiled his father the Alpha. Jarrod came across an old letter that stated Jacob’s real father had been the Alpha of the Cedarhil Pack. He’d met Jacob’s mom on a trip to their smal town and gotten her pregnant right before leaving. By the time she could track him down; he had just found his mate. Jacob’s mom then had married a sick son of a bitch from the sounds of the letter, making Jacob blame everything on his dad.
Jarrod had been shocked to find out they were related. He had first thought it was some kind of trick being played on him. But reality sank in that Jacob was his half-brother.
Jacob had come here to confront his father and make him pay for al the years of abuse he’d gone through because of his leaving.
Jacob kiled their father in the process from al of his hatred. Jacob never chose to tel Jarrod that they were half-brothers. He probably thought he had taken his rightful spot in their father’s life. After that, the Seer’s vision seemed forgotten by al and life just went on its merry way with none the wiser.
Then Alpha Jacob had taken a sickening interest in Garrett. This just made Jarrod even more convinced there was nothing special about these men of the prophecy. Other than the pleasure they found in hurting them, which was amazing. Jarrod was obsessed with Shannon. The more he watched him; he became convinced that Shannon was meant to be his. Never had he felt the urge to be with another man before Shannon. Jarrod lusted day and night after Shannon, but not in the loving way of a mate. He wanted to hurt him, as badly as he wanted to fuck him.
Al wolves were known
to have very high sexual drives, fucking many times in one night. Mostly they kept to their own kind because humans were too fragile for their dominance and sexual appetites. The few times he’d taken a human into his bed, the woman never lived through a night of his ‘special kind’ of loving. How do you explain away torn bodies to the human police who were paying more attention now than ever?
Those pack members would pay for siding with the wrong wolf. Jarrod was their rightful leader, and they would soon learn their lesson for daring to folow that upstart. Al he needed was some more muscle behind him and the less brains the better. Jarrod was glad he had stolen money from the witless Alpha over the years. He now had enough tucked away so he could build his own pack, somewhere else if he so desired. But for now he would focus his desire on Shannon, nothing else seemed to matter.
Chapter 3
The new Alphas closed their door behind them, getting ready to relax and enjoy their first night together. When the front door bel started ringing, they both looked at each other and replied, “Looks like it’s going to be awhile,” within their minds. Shannon took Tyler’s hand into his as they turned to make their way downstairs and open the front door.
“Alphas, I’m so sorry to bother you, but you said we could come to you with any concerns. There are several families with children who haven’t eaten in two days. We are worried about the welfare of the young ones in the pack. Things are bad, Alphas, and they are getting worse by the day.” Simon said as Tyler and Shannon opened the door.
